“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Jesus told his disciples to go into all the world and baptize all nations. We are all born into this world with a deep need for the blessings God offers us through baptism. Baptism is God’s way of welcoming someone into his family. We at Mt. Olive exist to connect you and your family to Christ. If your child hasn’t been baptized, we would be happy to provide this service for you and your child free of charge.
Strong Roots for Tender Shoots: Cradle Roll
To help equip parents for all the blessings and challenges of raising Christian children, Mt. Olive provides Christian resources to both parents and children through our Cradle Roll program. Beginning at a child’s baptism, and every six months until they reach Sunday School age, a parent will receive Christian advice and encouragement through a variety of Christian resources, books, and publications tailored to the specific age and needs of their child. Each child also receives age-appropriate Christian books and a musical CD aimed at encouraging a healthy relationship with Jesus. Cradle Roll is offered to all congregation families with children ages newborn through 4 years.
Sunday School & Other Christian Education
Feeding Jesus’ lambs with God’s Word is important to us at Mt. Olive. We invite all children to enjoy an hour of Sunday School after worship on Sundays of each month from September to May. Our teachers go through the Bible story at an age-appropriate level, in engaging ways so each child can understand and apply it in their lives. During the weeks when there are no classes, activities are offered for Sunday-school age children.
- Pre-K (toilet-trained age 3 and up) – 1st Grade
- 2nd Grade – 4th Grade
- 5th Grade – 6th Grade
7 & 8th Grades and high school students are encouraged to attend adult Bible study.
Easter for Kids
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is a one week, high energy program which uses Bible stories, songs, arts, crafts, and skits and is open to children ages 3-12. The theme each year immerses the children in a world of wonder. From music to snacks and everything in between, each part of VBS is designed to focus on the things that matter — connecting kids to God. Attendance is free and open to the community. More information.
On the weeks when we do not have a traditional structure of Sunday school classes scheduled, Children are invited to participate in fellowship and service activities as part of our youth group. Our purpose is to grow in grace, service, and outreach while having fun with our Christian friends. Youth and adult participants are always welcome. Specific schedule of opportunities is communicated as dates approach.
The Mt. Olive youth group exists reach this generation of young people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, in order that their faith in Jesus as their Savior might be strengthened, and that they might be empowered to let that gospel light shine to all with whom they come in contact. We seek to not only inform our youth, but also help transform them to live lives as young Christians through the power of the Holy Spirit. We don’t want our youth to simply conform to their parents’ church. We want them to know this is their church too. So we educate our youth in God’s Word, and we provide opportunities for Christian service and opportunities to strengthen the valuable bonds of Christian friends and influences.
Catechism classes at Mt. Olive are for early teens, typically during their 5th to 8th grade years. Students study God’s Word and working on memory work with the assistance of Luther’s Small Catechism and with some parental involvement.
The lessons are offered in preparation for acceptance as adult, confirmed members of the congregation. Mt. Olive seeks to prepare our youth to become knowledgeable and active members of the congregation through these two years of in-depth catechism instruction in Luther’s Small Catechism and the doctrines of the Bible. After completion of this training, students are “confirmed” in their faith and church membership through a special worship service and ceremony.
Confirmation signals the child’s entry into the church as an adult, and they receive communion for the first time. Confirmation is typically the first Sunday of May. Classes begin in the Fall. For more information, please contact the church office.
Teen Bible Study
In high school, teens experience a new level of personal freedom combined with increased levels of peer pressure. At Mt. Olive, we provide an environment where they can talk about real issues that go on during this phase, and this is where they are mobilized and encouraged to make a difference in their world.
The teen Bible study is for teens grades 8 and up. This opportunity exists to give young men and women a setting in which they can feel comfortable learning about and getting answers to their questions about life as a teenager. The group meets weekly following worship. When fellowship or service opportunities are offered after worship, the teen group participates in those activities on those days (during the even-numbered months).
