So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
The children were lined up waiting to get a drink from the bubbler. We all know that waiting is hard. One child was getting a little fidgety. The teacher, using positive redirection says, “Please be careful. It scares me when you do that.” That is when a child from the back of the line reminded that teacher of one of God’s great promises. He said, “Why are you scared? You taught us that God says, ‘Do not fear for I am with you.’ We don’t have to be afraid, he is with us!” The teacher took a breath and smiled. She looked that child in the eye and said, “You are right!” That was all that needed to be said. While God does not promise that we will never endure earthly pain, he does promise that we never need to endure it without him.
With all the things that we are responsible for each day, it is easy to get wrapped up in the how’s and why’s and when’s. We often lose sight of this promise that God gives us. He promises to be with us, to be our God, to help us and uphold us. Sometimes we need to take a deep breath, say a prayer, and remember his promises as we do life that often is scary.
God promises to be with you. This Christmas miracle continues! What a great comfort that is as we approach a new year. May all we do reflect his love and promises for us.
God, I am trusting you and you alone to supply all I need every day and every hour by being with me. Amen.
